detritus issue two (special edition)

For the past ten years I have worked as a painter and decorator in London, both as a means of surviving and also funding my artistic practise. The two roles of artist and decorator are not always easily reconciled, time demands and budgets often lead to a conflict of interests. I started photographing my daily life as a way of negotiating this conflict. The publication contains a selection of colour and black and white images taken while at work.

detritus issue three (special edition)

Issue three returns to the Heygate Esatae in South Esat London, a site that seems precariously perched between deterioration and complete disappearance. This issue contains photographs of the architecture and fabric of the buildings as well as found images from the estate. Issue three attempts to broaden the themes contained in the first issue of Detritus at a pivotal time in the history of social housing..

Issue five concentrates on a long-standing project that deals with found abstract photography, that is photographic prints and negatives I have picked up on the street. The project was an offshoot of material found while working on Days of Nothing . In this issue I have included a text which considers the status of abstraction within photography.

Detritus Six consists of photographs printed from  negatives I have found on the street. The original project  Days of Nothing was unofficially finished in 2003 when I thought the likelihood of finding more negatives was very slim. However occasionally I would still come across negatives which I kept for a future project or an updated version of the original. The special edition comes with a hand printed photograph directly printed from a found negative.
